An EDT Programme that links teams of Year 12 students with local companies. The scheme runs from October to April each year.
The Engineering Development Trust (EDT) runs the Engineering Education Scheme (EES) which encourages Year 12 students to recognise the importance of science and engineering. It offers an opportunity to gain useful skills and experience by working on a challenging project in partnership with industry.
The scheme provides a launch, a two-day residential university workshop and a celebration and assessment day for participating students, teachers and company representatives within Sussex. Students will also get the opportunity to compete for a British Association (BA) Gold CREST Award.
A professional scientist or engineer from a company works with a team of four to six high-ability Year 12 students and their teacher over a period of six months. They work as a team on a real industrial problem to which the company needs a solution. Along the way, they’ll gain important project management, report writing, communication and teamwork skills, as well as enhancing their classroom learning, by working on some advanced physics or engineering.

“ Students should get involved. It gives you experience and a topic to discuss on your CV or uni applications. It also gives you a chance to move away from structure through school and experience industry. ”
“ The project is a very rewarding experience, and if the project is well thought out it can also provide a real benefit to the company…The act of brainstorming the possible projects and developments that could be made by EES team often leads to identifying many more areas for improvement. ”
We work with a variety of employers and organisations of all sizes. Please contact us if you’d like to get involved!
